Two magnificent concertos by CPE Bach and Elena Kats-Chernin take on a new life in different forms from the original.
Bach’s ground-breaking set of six concertos for 1-6 harpsichords are some of his most popular works. Standing at the top is this one in D minor, thought to be orchestrated by his son Carl Philipp Emanuel. Played here as a duo on two harpsichords unexpected colour and soul is revealed within its complexity.
Elena Kats-Chernin’s exceptional work Ancient Letters takes you on a journey along the Silk Road. Inspired by some recently discovered documents from the region, she invites you to hear in four movements the sounds of Uzbekistan – its noisy bustling markets in Musk and Trade, its music and its people – at times regretful, yet persistent and ultimately triumphant.
