Scotch Airs

Land o' the Leal

A Special Concert for the Annual Glebe Music Festival 2027

with

Fiona Ziegler – violin

Danielle Grant – soprano

Diana Weston – harpsichord,  piano

This concert introduces our latest CD ‘Admired Scotch Airs’ with music from the same place and time. London is bursting with music in homes, concert halls and in the streets, attracting music-makers from across Europe. The Scottish Enlightenment is at its peak and with it comes notoriety – we hear Scottish tunes everywhere, including Australia, inspiring composers such as Haydn and Pleyel to re-use, arrange and emulate.

Opening with a new form of sonata by Johann Sebastian Bach (for harpsichord with an obbligato instrument) that was soon to become the usual, our program features composers who revelled in the music of London and Scotland – Johann Christian Bach, Ignace Pleyel and Josef Haydn, with a traditional Scottish song or two thrown in for good measure.
