Violets are blue
Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet and so are you. So goes the ancient nursery rhyme. Which now introduces our new recording – one all to do with children. Following in the footsteps of Bartok’s For Children is Rumanian/German composer Violeta Dinescu with Marchën, a collection of miniature pieces, most less than 1 minute long. Some of these she then takes and gives to two keyboards, as variations, and to be improvised upon. This is The Storybook of my Grandmother. Other aspects of childhood are reflected in Ann Carr-Boyd’s Hopscotch and Diana Blom’s Ballpark, both new works for piano forte and harpsichord.
Michael Tsalka and Diana Weston make their fourth recording together with this program about childhood.
Dr Tsalka is sponsored by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen
