The Toybox

Bring your kiddies on a musical journey through Claude Debussy’s The Toybox

Open their eyes and capture their imaginations as it reveals all the secrets of the toybox.

They dance, they play. They are naughty and nice.

They fight a battle, but still they live happily ever after in the toybox.

From Sydney ensemble Thoroughbass, this 2019 interpretation of the 1913 children’s ballet is a magical entrée to classical music.

Inviting little bodies with big imaginations to join us in the round on the floor, and get up close to some of the earliest musical instruments.

(Seating available)

The Toybox began as an illustrated children’s story that composer Claude Debussy then turned into music to amuse his 8 year old daughter Chou-Chou. In bringing this quaint story to today’s audiences, Thoroughbass has re-imagined and re-arranged Debussy’s music with the added charm of early instruments (and the odd pop-whistle!) and some very naughty and noisy toys.
