Review – Space Junk

Space Junk

From Diana Blom, composer:

' What a fabulous CD – Ann’s large and very effective body of piano pieces.  I have my favourites but the Star Burst are a huge range of sounds and styles.  Percy works really well and you are playing together so beautifully – great ensemble.

Flying West I didn’t know and it’s interesting to hear a classic combination of instruments playing recent Oz music – lovely combination and interesting piece.  Is that Angus on the cello, Diana?

Then Cat’s Play – this worked so well, in fact my 3 all worked well.  You are very imaginative and the percussion and harpsichord combination sounds great.  The dropped needles were spot on. Loved the choice of stops in Cat’s Play and great interweaving of percussion and keyboard.  And Travelling Chinese Orchestra was very effective – the sharp drum sound is a great choice. And the fade out is just right and needed.

Many thanks for your imaginative ideas with my pieces but also your terrific playing as soloist, Diana, and the duets with Mary.  You’re both stars!  Also I love the wording in the booklet – ‘the harpsichord, an instrument never reticent in snaffling others’ music’ – very true!'
