Square Piano

Square Piano

The early piano in colonial Australia was known as a ‘square’ piano. It was imported in the thousands exclusively for domestic use. Yet its sounds are lovely – mellow, warm, intimate, unique. This recording features a restored square piano by Robertson (c. 1835) of Liverpool, England – pieces that would have been enjoyed by both player and listener by JC Bach, Haydn, Pleyel and Cramer.
