The Child in Us
This is not children’s music. This is us as adults remembering our childhood – its innocence and confusion, the intensity of joy and disappointment and, sometimes, conflict. Many composers have understood these memories and portrayed them in music. Here are a few: From the film Amélie by Yann Tiersson; Debussy’s Children’s Corner suite; some Bagatelles by Carl Nielsen; Chick Correa’s Children’s Songs; a tango by Astor Piazzola and duets by our own Ann Carr-Boyd and John D’Arcy. With Diana Weston (piano, harpsichord), jazzman John D’Arcy (piano) and Ann Carr-Boyd (piano duets).
