Admired Scotch Airs

Mining the Stewart Simonds/Lucy Havens collection from the Museum of History’s Caroline Simpson Library finds Six Admired Scotch Airs by Joseph Haydn and songs by Ignace Pleyel to lyrics of Robbie Burns along with some of his sonatas for pianoforte and obbligato violin. Added to this program is a unique virtually unknown collection of dance pieces for tambourine and pianoforte by Daniel Steibelt. These delightful pieces reflect a short-lived episode in time when women could shine as entertainers in the home.   This program fits perfectly with our square pianoforte c. 1835. Such instruments came in abundance, transported from London to Sydney on the ships that supplied the colony, and destined for people’s front parlour!

This program will be recorded February/March 2026
