Women and Children

The aesthetics of 17th century women composers (often nuns) mingle in sublime harmony in music by Caterina Assandra, Leonora Orsini, Sulpitia Cesis, Lucrezia Vizzana and Francesca Caccini. Mezzo Sophia Mitchell and soprano Danielle Grant combine duets with arias from these remarkable unknown composers. Bringing us back to earth is the music of children – their play, quarrels, sulks, cheekiness and mimicry are all present in Bartok’s suite For Children, originally for piano, but, according to Bartok, just fine on harpsichord. Diana Weston (harpsichord) and Angus Ryan (cello).
