Diana, Hester Wilson, Michael Hissey
Saints and Sinners
Ever heard of Rosa Badalla, Claudia Sessa or Caterina Assandra? No, nor me. How about Francesca Campana, Sulpitia Cesis or Lucia Quinciani? No? They are all composers. from the 17th century who wrote the most exquisite music, but being women, albeit ‘disguised’ as nuns, their music got forgotten, was never published, or simply disappeared. The occasional woman composer flourished – Barbara Strozzi and Francesca Caccini are examples – but there are many whose music is well worth hearing, though their names be unrecognized. Singers Hester Hannah, Narelle Hissey and Michael Hissey join in divine harmony with Diana Weston (harpsichord) to bring you madrigals and motets from these 17th c. women composers.
All Saints Cathedral, Bathurst May 29 2016 Footnote: Unfortunately a bad attack of laryngitis meant that Narelle could not take part in this concert.
